My new mate blinks, stunned at the idea of becoming bred so quickly. “That’s quick.”

“I’m Voltare,” I explain. “We are potent breeders.”

“Oh wow.”

“Do you want to be a mother, Camila?”

She puts a palm against her chest. “I did always want that in my life, I just didn’t know when. But I have always wanted to be a mom someday and have babies with…someone.”

“With me?”

“I’d never truly thought about that happening with you. It seemed like an impossibility. I was trying to remain professional.”

“It isn’t an impossibility. I want you and you want me, and I want offspring with you. And I hope that’s what you want with me.”

Her green eyes turn watery.

I wrap this warmhearted, delicate human in my arms and place my chin on top of her golden head. “That means you agree to carrying my offspring?”

Her fingers dig into the front of my shirt. “Yes. Yes, of course I do.”

“If you agree to the next two parts and become my mate you will be Camila Tusk. Your husband will be Voltare and your offspring half-Voltare… There are other males who have taken human females as their mates. And I’ve even met their offspring they all seem happy and healthy. We are a highly compatible species. And remember, Voltare mate for life. There is no divorce because I will be physically latched onto your scent alone.” I pull back and meet her gaze. “Do you believe you can make that kind of life-long commitment to me?”

She sniffs and smiles at me because of course she loves the name. My assistant will become my mate and will be a Tusk. “Yes, I accept that,” she confirms. “And yes, I can make that kind of serious commitment to you.”

My shoulders slump with relief. I am indeed lucky that this female, despite her human nature, is willing to try to live like a mated Voltare pair. And then I take her hand and we start up the stairs again.

“I am now taking you to the primary bedroom for the most important part of the ritual.”

She’s distracted, looking at the house she loves. I’ve done a good job with the purchase of the domicile. She fell in love with it instantly and was heartbroken over the idea that I might have placed a different female here, instead of her. But how would that be possible? What other human already knows me? What other human can speak my own language so perfectly? And what other female already causes my not only my body to enflame, but my heart as well?

I am already falling in love with Camila Tusk.

Which makes the next part of this ritual even more important.

I pause at the correct doorway because this is it, on average, if a female is going to deny a mating, it will happen during the inspection of the mating bed. Females are notorious for their attention to detail. I did what I could to recreate this setting, considering I was off planet, to make it realistic. But I’m concerned I’ve failed.
